The operation of Ventura County Detention Center is under the purview of the Sheriff’s Office’s Detention Services Division. It began operations in 1980 and processes over 29,000 inmates yearly.  The unique design of this medium security facility helps keep staffing costs to a minimum. It allows services to be brought to the inmates and provides the flexibility to accommodate a maximum population of up to 890 inmates.

The Ventura County Sheriff is responsible for the safety and care of inmates who are awaiting or currently going through trial. When a suspect is arrested, the individual is brought to either the Ventura Police Department, Oxnard Police Department, or directly to the Ventura County Jail for booking. The process consists of fingerprinting, photographing, and classifying the inmate based on the crime. Inmate classification typically takes anywhere from 4-6 hours to complete. Operations are conducted 24-hours a day all year long.  For Ventura County Detention Center inmate information regarding bail bonds, please call us at 805-963-1233.
