The Riverside County Sheriff is entrusted with the safety and care of inmates who are awaiting or currently going through trial. When a suspect is arrested, he/she is brought to the Murrieta Police Department or Southwest Detention Center for booking. This consists of fingerprinting, photographing, and classifying the Inmate based on his/her crime and, if applicable, behavior while previously in custody. Inmate classification is one of the most important functions within the Riverside County Jail system, as it prevents inmates with different levels of criminal sophistication from interacting with each other.
The Southwest Detention Center began operations in 1993. It is located in close proximity to the cities of Murrieta and Temecula. It is commanded by a Sheriff’s Captain and operated under the supervision of the Corrections Division Chief. For inmate information regarding bail bond purposes, please call us at 951-696-1955.
